That's the word healed. 129 00:05:51.683 --> 00:05:54.443 And the word therapeuo is where we get the word therapy. 130 00:05:54.443 --> 00:05:57.303 And that word is really critical to understand 131 00:05:57.303 --> 00:05:59.943 concerning the healing ministry of Jesus. 132 00:05:59.943 --> 00:06:03.583 It is the No.1 word used in the 4 gospels 133 00:06:03.583 --> 00:06:05.523 to describe how Jesus healed the sick, 134 00:06:05.523 --> 00:06:07.483 the Greek word therapeo. 135 00:06:07.483 --> 00:06:10.083 The word therapeo is where we get the word therapy. 136 00:06:10.083 --> 00:06:12.003 So you have to think about a therapist. 137 00:06:12.003 --> 00:06:13.043 What does a therapist do? 138 00:06:13.043 --> 00:06:16.463 I'll give you an example from my life. I broke this hand. 139 00:06:16.463 --> 00:06:18.083 And when I broke this hand, I had to go 140 00:06:18.083 --> 00:06:20.263 to physical therapy many, many years ago. 141 00:06:22.123 --> 00:06:25.583 Moving this hand was so difficult and I'm left-handed 142 00:06:25.583 --> 00:06:27.323 and I'm a writer, so I needed my hand. 143 00:06:28.563 --> 00:06:30.823 The therapist told me to squeeze the ball. 144 00:06:30.823 --> 00:06:32.723 He would tell me to do this and to do that, 145 00:06:32.723 --> 00:06:35.484 and oh, it hurt so bad. 146 00:06:35.484 --> 00:06:37.284 The therapist knew what I needed to do. 147 00:06:38.524 --> 00:06:42.064 He would tell me what to do, but I had to participate. 148 00:06:42.064 --> 00:06:43.124 I had to cooperate. 149 00:06:43.124 --> 00:06:47.024 If I did not cooperate with the therapist's instructions, 150 00:06:47.024 --> 00:06:50.844 his therapy would have been no value to me. 151 00:06:50.844 --> 00:06:52.404 I had to cooperate. 152 00:06:52.404 --> 00:06:54.064 All of that is in the word therapeo, 153 00:06:54.064 --> 00:06:55.504 which is the primary word used 154 00:06:55.504 --> 00:06:59.584 to describe Jesus healing ministry in the four gospels, 155 00:06:59.584 --> 00:07:02.704 which means when Jesus healed people, he took time 156 00:07:02.704 --> 00:07:04.584 with them, just like a therapist. 157 00:07:04.584 --> 00:07:06.084 He would release the power of God 158 00:07:06.084 --> 00:07:08.184 or he would speak a word of healing. 159 00:07:08.184 --> 00:07:10.284 And then he would say, now, let's do something with 160 00:07:10.284 --> 00:07:13.044 that hand that you previously couldn't do. 161 00:07:13.044 --> 00:07:14.764 Stretch forth your arm. 162 00:07:15.684 --> 00:07:19.504 And as they would cooperate with Jesus and grunt and groan 163 00:07:19.504 --> 00:07:22.724 and do well, they could move that arm, move that hand. 164 00:07:22.724 --> 00:07:25.304 That's when the power of God was unleashed 165 00:07:25.304 --> 00:07:26.784 and their arm was restored. 166 00:07:26.784 --> 00:07:31.044 Or Jesus would say to a crippled man, pick up that bed. 167 00:07:31.044 --> 00:07:33.024 Well, naturally speaking, that wasn't possible, 168 00:07:33.024 --> 00:07:34.604 but Jesus was trying to get him 169 00:07:34.604 --> 00:07:37.544 to cooperate the Greek word therapeo. 170 00:07:37.544 --> 00:07:40.224 And as the man put forth effort, that's when the power 171 00:07:40.224 --> 00:07:43.224 of God began to take root and was unleashed 172 00:07:43.224 --> 00:07:45.184 and he was completely healed. 173 00:07:45.184 --> 00:07:47.724 Here's an example of what we can learn from 174 00:07:47.724 --> 00:07:48.984 the ministry of Jesus. 175 00:07:48.984 --> 00:07:52.864 If Jesus took time to work with people, then we should too. 176 00:07:52.864 --> 00:07:54.924 Jesus didn't just touch people and move on. 177 00:07:54.924 --> 00:07:57.324 He stopped and said, now let's do something. 178 00:07:57.324 --> 00:07:59.864 Likewise, when you are praying for the sick, 179 00:07:59.864 --> 00:08:02.084 don't just lay hands on them and move on. 180 00:08:02.084 --> 00:08:04.444 Say to them, try to bend over. 181 00:08:04.444 --> 00:08:06.264 If you couldn't bend over before, bend over now. 182 00:08:06.264 --> 00:08:07.344 Try to pick up that foot. 183 00:08:07.344 --> 00:08:08.424 If you couldn't pick up that foot, 184 00:08:08.424 --> 00:08:09.884 show me what you can do now. 185 00:08:09.884 --> 00:08:12.304 If you couldn't raise your arm, let's try to raise your arm. 186 00:08:12.304 --> 00:08:15.584 Get them to cooperate.
